What Do You Teach on Your Workshop?

We teach you how to make great quality videos on your smartphone. Videos that sound well, look well, are well framed and have good lighting. We also teach you how to edit the videos, add text, logos and more.

What Kind of Phone Do I Need?

You need a good quality smartphone, iPhone or Android (e.g. Samsung). They don’t need to be the newest model, just a good smartphone with a quality camera will do. The only phone we don’t teach on is Microsoft Windows as it is not compatible with video editing.

The most important thing is phone storage! We recommend having about 10GB of storage free on your phone to record videos.

Do I Need Equipment?

No, we supply the equipment at the workshop. We supply tripods, tripod clamps and a good quality clip-on microphone. If you have any equipment yourself you can bring it along to the workshop. We will also give you our recommendations on the essential equipment for making great quality videos, tried and tested by us.

What is the Difference Between a Half-Day and Full-Day Workshop?

In our half-day workshop, we teach you the basics of how to record and edit a good quality video on your smartphone. We teach you how to frame your video, how to get the lighting and sound right, and how to record a good short video interview. We also teach you how to trim your video, and how to add text and a logo. You will go home with a good video made at the end of the half-day workshop.

In our full day workshop, we teach you everything you would learn on a half day workshop, and more. We teach you essential interview skills to record a great video interview. We also show you our Four Shot Formula for recording a fantastic video, including how to plan your video story and how to include extra shots such as action shots, close up shots, and B-Roll. We teach you how to edit your video, how to add text, a logo, transitions between shots, and how to add music and a voiceover.

Do I Need Experience Making Videos to do the Workshop?

No you don’t need any experience, a little experience is helpful but it is not necessary. Video making is like any skill; you learn from a good teacher and then you practice, and it is the same on our course. We demystify the process of making videos. All you need is the right attitude and to come prepared to learn!

How Many People Can Come to the Workshop?

We recommend less than 6 people so every person gets one-on-one attention and everyone gets to go home with a great video. We can also do workshops for bigger groups and companies etc., send us an email at [email protected] for more information.

Where Can I Find Out More?

We have a blog with video making tips & tricks, our list of essential equipment recommendations for making videos and much more.

Aileen has delivered a number of workshops on Mobile Video Storytelling for PRII Members, run both as open courses and as part of bespoke in-house training. Feedback has been universally positive with a many participants complimenting Aileen’s clear and practical approach. Her knowledge of the technology and her tips on execution helped demystify the whole area for many. Most importantly everyone was equipped with the skills they needed and a straightforward model to tell their stories via video. As well as enjoying themselves in the process.

Development & Research Manager,

I found Aileen O’Meara’s video training a most practical and hands-on session, the sort of training I had been seeking for a long time. Her approach is informal yet instructive and……. you get answers to the many questions that, heretofore, you were afraid to ask! A session with Aileen is a ‘must’ for anyone working in the PR and related areas.

Tim Ryan

Public Affairs Consultant & Journalist

Aileen’s one-day tailored ‘Mobile Video Made Easy’ workshop for our group of 15 (mostly) novices was an excellent introduction to making short videos on our i-phones and Androids. Aileen put us at our ease, communicated with us in a knowledgeable, step-by-step way and explained everything with friendliness and good humour. We all came away from the day with newly acquired practical skills, lots of great tips on planning content and a sense of much greater confidence. I would thoroughly recommend the training.

Paul Harron

Church of Ireland Press Office

I attended Aileen’s Smartphone Video workshop. It was great! We learned to film, edit and upload a short video by doing it. The result from the attendees were some very impressive, professional looking videos. I really liked learning about the underlying principles of making videos – like framing the shot, getting good light, and planning a storyboard. Aileen is clearly an excellent video producer with great skills behind and in front of the camera. I highly recommend the workshop for anyone who needs to make any kind of video and put it on YouTube (which these days is pretty much everyone).

Daniel Jacobson

Director of the Ultimate School of Music

Thank you a wonderful day, really enjoyed, learnt a lot! As a person not computer literate I understood a lot. The last section, the battery ran out! Really found very educational, may try it on holidays from tomorrow in Lagrasse!

Cormac Cuffe

CEO, Boutique Jewellery School

I have enjoyed working alongside Aileen in the media since I was a freelance, as a producer in the BBC while she was Health Correspondent at RTE and more recently in our current roles. She has always stood out as a journalist of the highest integrity, who will work tirelessly to get to the truth. She has a quick and intelligent grasp of the structures and issues underlying any story and an admirable ability to communicate often complex messages in a clear and concise manner, with her characteristic freshness and sincerity.

Trish Hegarty

Inis Communications

To say that Aileen is a safe pair of hands is to underestimate both her ability and her interest in supporting her clients. When you commission Aileen to work with you, that work will be carried out to the highest standards with time and effort put into the planning and delivery.

Caroline Lynch

Communications & Advocacy Manager, The Irish Hospice Foundation

I did the smartphone video training course with Aileen O’Meara Media. I found it very practical, very easy to understand, and also most importantly very usable. Since doing the course with Aileen I have been able to do one minute or one and a half minute videos with my clients live at events. If there is a launch of a report or some research, we’ve been able to do a one-minute clip explaining what the findings and key messages are. I have then been able to take those clips from my phone back and edit them, get them up on to YouTube for my clients, and then my clients have been very pleased because they have been able to use these on their website, use them on their social media, and also, I have been able to add an additional service for my clients and that has added to the sense of value that I am able to bring to them. So, I would highly recommend the smartphone video training course with Aileen O’Meara Media.

Eddie Stack

Executive director of BNI Dublin and North East Ireland

I found the video editing workshop to be a fascinating experience. My background is in radio hosting and producing, so I was coming to the workshop not having any previous experience of video editing and I learned a huge amount. The whole process of putting the clips together and trimming and editing has been beneficial to me in making short videos for clients. I would never have been able to even consider making a video without the skills of Aileen as coach and tutor. I would truly recommend the workshop to anyone with even a passing interest in video or broader media.

Noel D. Walsh

Media Tutor

I loved the training course, it was really practical and hands-on, and was at the right level for our needs and experience - not too simple and not too complicated
